In this second volume, Naoufel Brahimi El Mili continues his investigation into the secret and winding meanders of the complex links between France and Algeria. A fascinating document.
It is 8:30 p.m. on June 17, 1962 in Algiers. Like every evening, many French people listen to the pirate program of the Armed Organization on the radio
Secret (OAS), which brings together the last enthusiasts of French Algeria lost in a desperate fight of rare violence. Their blood boils when they hear a spokesperson announce in a deep voice that, “following talks in which the OAS took part, the FLN has just […] defined the bases of an agreement between Algerians".
Three months after the Evian agreements, the war in Algeria is coming to an almost complete end. Thanks to an agreement that we will do our best to keep secret, a sort of announcement of future links between France and its former colony.
And for proof: for nearly fifty years, the two countries will maintain a passionate and tumultuous relationship made up of love and
hatred, against a backdrop of gas contracts, immigration and badly healed identity wounds. A relationship where all shots will be allowed. But in
hiding place.
We must not forget that we are at peace now. In this study in two volumes, Naoufel Brahimi El Mili finally lifts the veil on this very dark period of our history. He teaches us how Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, who did not see the OAS with a bad eye, let the SDECE destabilize the young Algerian state, or how the war between services of the two countries for the rescue of the monks of Tibhirine made mess up the whole operation.
Revelations, unpublished point of view on a still burning topicality,
Naoufel Brahimi El Mili closes, with this book, his masterful 50 years of secret stories .

Naoufel Brahimi El Mili is a doctor in political science, teaching at Sciences Po Paris. We owe him in particular The Arab Spring: a
handling ? (Max Milo, 2012). The first volume of France-Algeria, 50 years of secret stories was published in 2017 by Fayard.
