The Book of Meditation According to Al-Ghazali

The book of meditation according to Al-Ghazali:

It is amazing that entering a luxurious house, richly painted and gilded, you do not stop marveling at it, mentioning it and describing its beauty all your life!

Now you have always looked at this immense dwelling, its floor, its vault, its air, its marvelous objects, its magnificent sculptures, without ever fainting or considering them from your heart!

What does this house which you are astonished represent, in front of this dwelling (the earth) since it is part of this other dwelling which is the universe? Despite this you do not consider it. There is no other cause for this than the fact that it is the dwelling place of your lord. It is He alone who built and ordered it. As for you, you have forgotten your person, your Lord and the House of your Lord.

You only care about your belly and your sex. You try to satisfy your appetite, to fill your stomach, but you can't eat a tenth of what an animal eats, which places it ten degrees above you. You surround yourself with familiars who act like hypocrites in front of you.

And even if their friendship is sincere, they do not hold for you and for themselves neither benefit, nor damage, neither death, nor life, nor resurrection. You deceive yourself by worrying about all this, turning away from the beauty of the Kingdom of heaven and earth, but also from the enjoyment that comes from meditation on the Majesty of the King of the Kingdom (Malakut) and of the Royalty (Mulk) .
