The Measure of the Act in the Light of Muslim Tradition, by Imam Abou Hâmid Al-Ghazâlî

... Knowing that Bliss, the one to which the ancients and the moderns aspire, can only be obtained by science and action, as long as both involve a minimum of discernment.. .for it is necessary to recognize what is science and what is not, and to recognize what is a profitable act and what is not. Such a quest also requires a mîzân (a balance, evaluation, measure...).

So we want to deal with the matter thoroughly and show that it is absurd to seek bliss in a nonchalant manner. Then we will confirm that science and action are the only path to bliss. Next, we will clarify what science is by indicating the process of its acquisition. After which, we will examine the beatifying act and the way to achieve it.

All this will be done by means of a superior method to that of slavish imitation to reach the limit of evidence. Thus one becomes aware of the action which leads to Bliss and differentiates it from that which leads to damnation.
