The Book of Advice - Pend-Namèh, by Farîd -ud-dîn Attar, Translated from Persian by Sylvester de Sacy, Preface by Théophile De Wallensboug, Collection Esprit & lumière

Recognize that all mortals are plunged into a deep sleep: there is no truly awake except he who has come out of this world. Receive the apologies of the man who has offended you: take care not to take revenge, so that you may find mercy with the Lord. Whoever wounds a heart by his injustice only hurts himself; groans will be the reward of the man who delights in vexing his fellows. He who does not chain his tongue and does not forbid it to gossip, will not be safe from chastisements and regrets...
