The virtue of everything consists above all for the believer in helping him to seek and achieve happiness which is none other than proximity and encounter with God - may HE be exalted and magnified -.
Yet the reverent fear of God – may He be exalted and magnified – is one of the spiritual stations that can lead to this happiness when it is well assumed. And as excessive fear can lead to despair, there are many verses in the Qur'an that insist on the extent of God's Mercy and His Immense Benevolence to give hope to servants. In this hope is not the opposite of fear but its companion. In other words, hope and fear are two wings by which believers soar to the praiseworthy stations or rather two mounts which they ride in their spiritual progress towards the Future Life.
