In the West, interest in Arabic is often accompanied by an interest in understanding the Islamic religion . The purpose of this manual is to enable students to acquire religious vocabulary in addition to secular vocabulary. The Muslim Handbook, by Abdelmadjid Ihaddadéne, Bilingual (French-Arabic)- دليل المسلم، الدكتور عبد المجيد إحدادن، فرنسي- عرب ي

In the West, the ever-growing interest in the Arabic language is often accompanied by an interest in understanding the Islamic religion. It is, in fact, legitimate for a Muslim to want to have access to the considerable heritage bequeathed by our illustrious scholars during Muslim history. However, the translation effort in this area, particularly in the French-speaking world, remains sadly insufficient.

Aware of the legitimacy of this expectation, the European Institute of Human Sciences in Paris has , since its creation, integrated into its training the Arabic language and the teaching of Islamic culture. The main objective of this subject is to enable students to acquire religious vocabulary in addition to secular vocabulary. The choice of the pillars of Islam and of the faith was obvious from the outset, because these foundations of Islam represent a double interest: practical and scientific.

The deliberate choice to strip this manual of any legal or dogmatic controversy is a pedagogical choice. It is not necessary indeed to burden a beginner in religious practice or in learning the Arabic language with such knowledge. It will create in him only doubt and confusion.
