The importance of hadiths

The two main sources of the Muslim religion are the Koran and the Traditions of the Prophet Muhammad: the Sunnah. The Koran, intended for all mankind, was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (PSL) over a period spanning from the year six hundred and eleven to the year six hundred and thirty-two of the Christian era. The Quran is the main source of success in this world and the hereafter.

The second source is the Sunna of the Prophet (PSL), that is to say all of his words, acts and approvals reported from a reliable source. Allah, regarding the traditions of His Messenger (pbuh), says:

- And he utters nothing under the effect of passion, it is nothing but an inspired revelation - (53:34)

And he says :

- O you who believe! Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and do not make your works vain- (47:33)

He also says:

-Whoever obeys the Messenger surely obeys Allah- (4:8O)

Allah says, likewise, about His Messenger (pbuh):

- Indeed, you have in the Messenger of Allah an excellent model - (33:21)

As for the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), he said:

(Any novelty [in religion] is a religious innovation (bid-a) and any religious innovation is a misguidance).

He (PSL) further said:

-Whoever obeys me will enter paradise-.

According to these traditions, every Muslim must learn hadith and follow the example of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh). If we follow his pattern in our daily works, we will lead a prosperous life here and in the hereafter.

There is a good example to follow in the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH). We must learn this Sunnah and apply it in our daily life.

The sermons (khoutba) of the Prophet Muhammad (PSL), full of teachings, were collected by his companions. Many learned them by heart and others wrote them down.

However, the written hadiths were not numerous. The second and then the third generation of Muslims also transmitted these traditions orally. Then came the turn of the great scholars and imams of hadith who collected them in the form of collections, with a classification based on the level of authenticity of the hadith. They thus developed the science of hadith by analyzing the sources and the men who took part in the collection of hadith. The aim was to weed out false traditions and sift the narratives to get rid of what was incorrect.
