The Crisis of the Modern World, by René Guenon

If the modern world is said to be in crisis, what is usually meant by this is that it has reached a critical point, or, in other words, that a transformation more or less profound is imminent, that a change of direction will inevitably have to occur in the short term, willingly or by force, in a more or less abrupt way, with or without catastrophe.

This meaning is perfectly legitimate and corresponds well to a part of what we ourselves think, but only to a part, because, for us, and placing ourselves from a more general point of view, it is the whole era modern, as a whole, which represents for the world a period of crisis; it seems, moreover, that we are approaching the end, and this is what makes more apparent today than ever the abnormal nature of this state of affairs which has lasted for several centuries, but whose consequences had not yet been so severe. visible as they are now.
