Ibn Qudâmah advises to first purify one's inner self from faults such as greed and jealousy before seeking to reform others. He warns that trying to correct others without improving yourself is futile. Once this purification is accomplished, one can gradually focus on collective obligations, starting with the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet.
